Promoters of the World Sango Festival have said that troupes of the various arts councils across the South West states have indicated their interest to perform at the event holding in Oyo, Oyo State.
Planned to be a 'global' festival, the spectacle, which is expected to be hosted by the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, will, according to the organisers, attract people from Brazil and other parts of the world.
According to a statement signed by a member of the organising committee, Chief Biodun Ajiboye, Bahia State, Brazil-based cultural enthusiast, Prof. Fabio Liman, has started mobilising Africans in the Diaspora for the festival, which is
built around one of the most powerful rulers and artists that Oyo, indeed, Yorubaland has ever had - Sango.
He adds that the Cuban embassy in Nigeria and governments of various states across Nigeria have also indicated their intention to be part of it. Information from the Alaafin palace, he says, indicates that activities coming up at the festival
will recreate Sango's heroic and historic
gallantry, particularly, in the creation of the Yoruba nation.
